Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck”
Is a cosmetic surgery procedure that involves the removal of excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen in order to tighten the muscle and fascia of the abdominal wall. This type of surgery is usually sought by patients with loose tissues after pregnancy or individuals with sagging after major weight loss.
The best candidates for tummy tuck
First, you need extra skin on your abdomen, or muscle weakness, or both to benefit from a tummy tuck. In addition, you must be in relatively good physical shape to tolerate this procedure. Women who have experienced one or more pregnancy are often good candidates for abdominoplasty. Pregnancy affects each woman differently. In some, pregnancy may lead to muscle weakness alone; in others, it may result in loose skin of the abdomen. Some women may have loose skin, muscle weakness and extra fat. For these reasons, a tummy tuck is often part of a mommy makeover, a combination procedure designed to help mothers regain their pre-pregnancy body contours.
